At the junction of Eurasia, Africa, The Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean lies the Middle East. It has always been a major center of world affairs, this is no small part due to the religious variety in the region. As the birthplace and spiritual center of Christianity, Islam and Judaism combined with some of the largest oil reserves on the planet, it is no wonder that the strategic, economic, political and cultural interests are high.
One of the wealthier nations, the United Arab Emirates, has seen a lot of attention in recent years due to some amazing engineering projects. The Burj Al Arab Hotel for example, designed to mimic the sail of a Dhow, a type of Arabian vessel. Build on an artificial island, it was constructed to become synonymous with the name of the country, much like the Eiffel Tower in France or the Statue of Liberty in New York.
